System Engineer
“Come as you are”
Everyone is welcome here. Diversity & Inclusion are at our core. Far above any technical competence, we value respect, openness, and trusted collaboration. We do not tolerate intolerance.
Your opportunity
Team.blue is looking for a System Engineer to join our OpenStack team in Leiden. In this role, you will help develop, operate, and maintain a large-scale OpenStack platform across multiple datacentres in the Netherlands.
By making our infrastructure reliable, scalable, and easy to use, we enable our customers to focus on what they do best. Automation plays a key role in our platform, helping customers become as self-sufficient as possible. After all, nobody enjoys being dependent on customer care.
You are a system engineer who feels at home on the command line and enjoys working close to the infrastructure. You like diving into complex technical challenges and understanding how systems behave under the hood. Guidance is available, especially in the beginning, but curiosity and ownership are essential.
The team
As part of the OpenStack team, you will work on a complex environment managing a public cloud environment for our customers. You will be expected to understand how OpenStack components interact and how they are operated in production.
Python plays an important role in managing and automating our infrastructure, so being able to read and write Python code is essential. You will also work with a microservices-based architecture and should be comfortable understanding how services communicate and depend on each other.
The team continuously evaluates new tools and technologies to improve the platform. You will need to pick up new concepts quickly and apply them in practice. Work is organised in sprints, and we follow SCRUM as our development process.
What your day will look like
You work from home or another workspace, with at least one day per week at our Leiden office in consultation with your team. Whether you start your day at home or at the office, it usually begins with a cup of coffee or tea.
At 10:00, the team gathers for the daily stand-up. It's a moment to connect, share updates, and align on the day’s goals. You check in with your teammates, discuss any blockers, and make sure everyone is on the same page.
From there, you dive into your work. Your day might involve contributing to the improvement of our core OpenStack services, building out new features for our internal infrastructure, or streamlining existing processes through automation. You might be writing code, reviewing a colleague’s pull request, configuring servers, or testing out a new tool you think could save the team time. Whatever the task, you're focused on building robust and efficient solutions that help us move forward.
